Chris Pratt Teases That GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Could Take Place Before INFINITY WAR

Read Time:2 Minute, 6 Second

As most of us know, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was left with uncertainty after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. How can the movies we know are happening – Black Panther 2, Spider-Man 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 happen when we know the fate of most of their characters?

Well, the Russos weighed in on that before, and now Chris Pratt – who plays Star-Lord in the MCU has put in his say too. While on the red carpet for the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, Pratt told MTV that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. “might be a prequel” to Infinity War. You can watch the interview below.

“You don’t know,” he said. “It might take place in the past. It might be a prequel.”

He’s right. It might be. I also might be directing the movie. But I’m not. James Gunn is, and Guardians 3 will not be a prequel. I can practically see Rocket sarcastically winking in this video.

First of all, Guardians 3 can be anybody, that group can be a rotating door. So if most of the fates are sealed, they can refresh the group with new members, including people from Yondu’s group.

Secondly, we don’t know what will happen in Avengers 4. Between Quantum Realms, Time Travel, the dimensional powers of Dr. Strange, not to mention the Infinity Stones – lots of things can still be undone or changed. I would say anyone post-snap could come back. Pre-snap, to me, feels permanent. So the team is going to look different regardless.

If I am incorrect and it is a prequel, well, they have 4 years to play with – that is how much time has elapsed between Guardians 2 and Infinity War. By that time, we will be used to a not-so-linear timeline. After all, it seems that Ant-Man and the Wasp takes place some time between Civil War and Infinity War. Then you have Captain Marvel which is a straight up 90’s prequel. So it is possible. I just don’t quite buy into it yet. I am of the mind that Pratt is towing the corporate line and doesn’t want to spoil anything for Avengers 4.

But we shall see.

What do you think of Pratt’s comments? Do you think that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. will be a prequel to Infinity War? Or do you think this is all part of the Marvel Secrecy Machine?
