Kevin Feige Is Still Waiting For An Answer On The X-Men, Just Like We Are
Contrary to popular belief, the deal between 20th Century Fox and Disney isn’t a done deal yet. Rival company Comcast is aiming to try and outbid the Mouse, which could cause some noticeable ramifications in the long run. While it wouldn’t necessarily be the biggest issue in the grand scheme of things, arguably the most popular topic that could be affected is whether or not the vast portion of Marvel characters that Fox owns the film rights to- which includes the X-Men and Fantastic Four– would finally be able to merge back into Marvel Studios and become a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
So with that in mind, it’s not at all surprising to hear that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is every bit as unsure of what’s to come as you or I. Everyone’s busy cooking up theories about his plans for bringing the X-Men home to the MCU, but Feige recently stated at the Produced By press conference, “I’m just sitting, waiting for a phone call to say yay or nay, but obviously it would be nice to have access to that entire library.”
While I wouldn’t argue that these Fox-owned properties are a necessity for the MCU moving forward, I definitely think most fans would agree that it’d be ideal for Marvel Studios to finally be able to unify the entirety of its cast back under one cinematic umbrella. The X-Men and Fantastic Four characters are amongst Marvel’s most famous. So the thought of Comcast sniping that opportunity off the table isn’t actually a pleasant one for me.
Take the Silver Surfer, for instance. He’s not nearly as big a name in the comics as a large number of other Marvel characters currently owned by Fox. The world doesn’t necessarily need a Silver Surfer solo movie anytime soon, much less one from the MCU. But it’d be nice if it happened, wouldn’t it?
But what do you think? Would you rather Comcast buy Fox, instead of Disney? Whatever your thoughts may be, please be sure to share them with us in the comments section down below!
