HALLOWEEN: Danny McBride Almost Pitched Shooting Two Films Back-to-Back
The first trailer for the next Halloween film debuted on Friday and it lit up the internet.
Hot off the heels of that trailer comes the news that Halloween co-screenwriter Danny McBride had originally thought of shooting the upcoming film and its sequel back-to-back. Speaking to EW during a set visit early this year, McBride revealed that he and director David Gordon Green were going to pitch the idea of shooting both films at the same time but decided against it.
We were going to shoot two of them back-to-back. Then we were like, Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This could come out, and everyone could hate us, and we’d never work again. So, let’s not have to sit around for a year while we wait for another movie to come out that we know people aren’t going to like. So, we were like, Let’s learn from this, and see what works, and what doesn’t. But we definitely have an idea of where we would go [with] this branch of the story and hopefully we get a chance to do it.
Shooting a film and its sequel at the same time isn’t a new concept as Peter Jackson did it when he made his Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Russo Brothers recently did it for Marvel with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.
However, it was probably a smart move on McBride and Green’s part to wait to see how this Halloween film was received first before jumping right in and making a sequel. While the trailer has been so far well-received and the early buzz from test screenings seems to be solid, nobody will really know how things will truly pan out for Halloween until it’s finished and out in the public.
Audiences will get a chance to judge for themselves when Halloween is released on October 19.
