GOTHAM: John Stephens Talks Season Five Time Jump Rumor
This article features some spoilers from the season four finale of Gotham.
The final episode of Gotham‘s fourth season was a game-changer for the series.
The finale left the city’s citizens as they were beginning their lives in “No Man’s Land”, which left the city in a blackout, Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon beginning their crime-fighting partnership and various villains staking their claim around the city.
After the episode aired, fans took to the internet to theorize that we would see a time jump in-between the fourth and fifth seasons. And, according to Gotham executive producer John Stephens, they may not be wrong.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Stephens discussed this particular fan theory.
I would say that’s possible. I would say that’s not a crazy theory.
A time jump would make sense. To get the most out of the storylines the season four finale left, there would almost have to be a jump forward in time. Plus, with the fifth season scheduled to be Gotham‘s last, the final moments of the series would have to include Bruce finally taking up the cape and cowl.
Stephens also hinted to ComicBook.com that the fifth season will borrow from another popular story in the Batman mythos: “Year Zero”. This New 52 story saw Gotham also facing a blackout, which sees the city become overgrown and jungle-like. This story also saw Bruce fully come into his own as Batman, while also seeing the Caped Crusader take on The Riddler for the first time.
Gotham has certainly taken some of the most famous Batman storylines and presented fresh takes on them and, hopefully, that continues in its final season. Unfortunately, fans may have to wait a while to see how things wrap up, as Gotham isn’t set to return until some time in 2019.
