SOLO SPOILERS: Details on Warwick Davis’s Role Revealed
“This baby’s got a few surprises left in her, sweetheart.”
While Solo: A Star Wars Story seems like a pretty straight forward origin story, Ron Howard might have hidden some pretty cool Easter Eggs within it.
This could be considered “minor spoilers” as it is not a large role, but if you want to know NOTHING about the film, or the characters in it before you see it, then turn away now.

Warwick Davis appears in the film. He has been in Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and The Last Jedi, playing a total of 6 characters. He reunites with his Willow director Ron Howard to appear in Solo. But this time, he is reprising a previous role instead of playing a new one.
Let’s get this out of the way first – it is not Wicket the Ewok.
Davis is playing one of the characters he played in The Phantom Menace. As Slashfilm breaks it down so nicely: Davis played both Anakin’s Rodian friend Wald, and a guest of Watto’s during the podrace named Weazel. It is Weazel that will be seen in Solo.
The top picture is Weazel in The Phantom Menace. That screenshot below that comes from Star Wars Undeground, who also found a tweet from Stitch Kingdom that had a cast list:

While this should still be taken with a grain of salt, One of the “Keepers of the Canon”, from Lucasfilm’s story group – Pablo Hidalgo – seemingly confirmed it on Twitter yesterday, only to delete the tweet later. Take that however you want.
Weazel is some sort of weapons dealer according to biographies of the character, so he might be useful to somebody in the movie. He certainly seems to have an impressive weapon in that screenshot.
Connections like this are nice – they are subtle and don’t force the narrative, yet provide a wonderful connection to the prequels. It is much better than say…Han and Chewie running into Jar Jar Binks or something.
Slashfilm says he only has a couple of scenes, and even fewer lines, but is still a memorable character.
What do you think? Do you like that Davis reprised his prequel role? Or would you rather have him be someone new every time?
