Marvel Finds Its Writers For THE ETERNALS

Read Time:1 Minute, 43 Second

The cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. will not be the last time we see a story outside of Earth. As was rumored early last month and confirmed later, Marvel is developing a film based off of The Eternals, created by Jack Kirby, and they have found their writers.

THR reports that Matthew and Ryan Firpo, who had a spec script called Ruin that made the top of the Black List (a list of the best scripts that don’t get made every year), get the honor to bring these characters to life. A quick bio from Wikipedia will show what they are working with:

The Eternals are a fictional race of humanity appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth. The original instigators of this process, the alien Celestials, intended the Eternals to be the defenders of Earth, which leads to the inevitability of war against their destructive counterparts, the Deviants. The Eternals were created by Jack Kirby and made their first appearance in The Eternals #1 (July 1976).

I expect James Gunn to have some sort of connection to this movie as well, probably as an Executive Producer. He seems to be in a prime position to oversee elements of the Marvel Cosmic Universe .

Knowing Marvel, there could probably be some connective tissue in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to lay the seed for this. Audiences are much better at accepting superhero movies than they used to be, but it still helps to ease them in to some of the more obscure ones.

I know nothing of The Eternals. But I knew nothing of the Guardians of the Galaxy either, and the first movie was one of the best in Marvel’s slate. So with all of the good credit Marvel has earned with me, I will keep an open mind.

Are you a fan of The Eternals? Who would you want to star and direct?
