DEADPOOL 2: Ryan Reynolds and Director David Leitch Weigh in on X-Force and A Threequel

Read Time:2 Minute, 1 Second

Deadpool 2 is nearly here. In this fast pace world we live in, that means we should look beyond that. What is the future of this popular character? Will there be a Deadpool 3? What about a full on X-Force spinoff? The answers from people in the know may surprise you.

Variety caught up with Ryan Reynolds and David Leitch at the premiere and when asked about the future, they gave answers that might surprise you.

Reynolds says an X-Force film will happen but as far as a standalone Deadpool 3 goes:

“At this point I don’t want to think about it,” Reynolds said. “But down the road, I’m sure we’ll figure it out.”

Leitch talks about X-Force being developed by Drew Goddard, and how the exploration into these characters can further develop the universe.

[Goddard’s] a great writer and a great filmmaker and I think they’re trying to take these characters and develop this universe,” Leitch said.

The creator of Deadpool, as well as Cable and others seen in the movie – Rob Liefeld, weighed in as well.

“The door is wide open: X-Force, more Deadpool, the fans are going to speak this weekend,” Liefeld said.

The general consensus seems to be: Yes, there will be more of these characters for sure. It is the “how much”, “when”, and “in what form” that is up in the air. Something that’s hovering over anyone that wants to comment on a Deadpool 3 and an X-Force movie it’s unclear how Disney plans to proceed with Fox’s X-Men-related films once their acquisition of the studio is complete. While it’s widely accepted that they’d be foolish for Disney to scrap future Deadpool projects, it’s probably hard for anyone involved to comment on any of that since it’s really out of their hands.

Deadpool is a fan favorite character, and Ryan Reynolds is the perfect person to play him. As long as they want to keep that combination going, I am in the bag for it. So here’s hoping we do get to continue witnessing the expansion of this franchise.

We will see more of Deadpool and get to meet the other members of the X-Force when Deadpool 2 hits theaters everywhere this Friday, May 18.
