Kasdan Reveals How SOLO Singlehandedly Lured Him Back To STAR WARS, and Ford Digs The Movie!
In February, there was a story that said George Lucas was interested in developing a Han Solo spinoff with Lawrence Kasdan. Now a little more has been revealed about that thanks to ComicBook.com.
“George and [Kathleen Kennedy] had decided that, as the company went on without George, and Kathy would run it, that part of what they were going to do was continue the Star Wars movies, and they had an idea for a bunch of ’em,” Lawrence said. “When they called me up there, I said, ‘I don’t know if I’m up for a fourth Star Wars movie,’ and they said, ‘Well, what if it was Han?’
“And I said, ‘Well, I love Han,’ and they sort of hit my button, you know? I was told that I could do anything I wanted with it, and that was kind of irresistible. It took off from there.”
The man who wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was a bit burnt out on the entire universe, but the concept of focusing on just Han appealed to him. When the whole Disney thing happened, it was put on the back burner for The Force Awakens which Kasdan also helped write. Funnily enough, it was the movie that saw the demise of the character that Kasdan would bring to life again.
So here we are, less than two weeks before Solo: A Star Wars movie is released. Kasdan and his son Jon seemed to have written a fun flick if the initial reactions are to be believed. If you don’t believe those, maybe you’ll believe the reaction of the man himself.
Harrison Ford seemed to have liked the film too.
“It’s just such a huge deal to have him really genuinely enjoy the film,” Ehrenreich said.
Ford told Alden Ehrenreich after he crashed an interview that Ehrenreich was doing which you can see part of below (there is an expletive said by Ehrenreich so could possibly be NSFW):
The only thing better than one Han Solo is two. ❤️ Harrison Ford dropped by @CameronMathison's interview and surprised #SoloAStarWarsStory star Alden Ehrenreich! The full interview will be on https://t.co/issuFApt4j tomorrow. 🙌 pic.twitter.com/5hy4GoZrhg

“Get out of my chair!”
“Get out of my life!”
“Get off my plane!”
“Get off my lawn!”
Those are all things that Ford has said, two of which you can hear in the video above. He doesn’t seem to like anything, so for him to give Solo praise is pretty great.
We can all see if we agree with Ford or not, when Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on the franchise’s 41st anniversary: May 25th, 2018.
