Peele Comes Out Swinging With The Announcement of A New Project With A Killer Cast: US
When your directorial debut is a colossal smash like Get Out, which redefines and reinvents the way people think about horror movies, you can bet that all eyes will be on what you’re working on next. It’s been over a year since Get Out came out to incredible reviews and stellar box office numbers and began its run towards eventual Awards Season glory, and in that time many have wondered what writer-director Jordan Peele had in mind for his follow-up. Well, now we know that he intends to bring us a “New Nightmare” in the form of a film called Us.
And he won’t be alone.
Peele revealed yesterday that he had snagged some sensational, buzzworthy talent for Us while also dropping a teaser poster on the world:
Firstly, let’s note the verbiage at the top: “A New Nightmare From The Mind of Academy Award Winner Jordan Peele.” This confirms that Peele will be sticking with the trappings of horror, just as he did with Get Out. Considering he came from the world of sketch comedy, it was never a given that he’d keep making scary movies, but it looks like Us will be just that.
But now we have to discuss the trio of stars he’s lined up for Us, because it’s quite impressive. The film will star Lupita Nyong’o, who’s been on an amazing tear in the years following her debut in 12 Years A Slave with roles in huge blockbusters like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and this year’s global smash Black Panther. It will also star Elizabeth Moss, who’s been a critical darling for years now while working on zeitgeisty television shows like Mad Men and the currently red hot The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. Then there’s Winston Duke, who stole the scene every time he popped up in Black Panther as the fan-favorite anti-hero M’Baku.
With the buzz around all of the talent involved, coupled with the fact that this will likely be another low-budget/high-concept horror flick from Peele, there’s no reason not to expect Us to be a very exciting project for fans and Hollywood bean counters alike when it arrives in theaters next March.
