Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, Avengers 4, are set to be game-changers for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fans have already started to look forward to see what could be coming next.
With reports that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is working with Marvel to develop more cosmic films set in the MCU and Disney’s ongoing quest to acquire 21st Century Fox , one can only wonder if this could lead to a potential Secret Wars film in the future.
Speaking with Lintern@ute, the Russo Brothers acknowledged the idea of a Secret Wars movie as something they could do.
If Disney’s takeover of Fox goes through, there’s a lot more characters to work with all of a sudden, it might be interesting to do something like Secret Wars…
The original Secret Wars event began in 1984 and saw Marvel’s heroes and villains duking it out on Battleworld. The recent 2015 version of the event combined various other alternate universes and was a major turning point in the history of Marvel Comics, as it combined various timelines into a singular universe.
Secret Wars could certainly use that concept as a way to introduce the Fantastic Four and X-Men into the MCU. However, as movies like Captain Marvel are showing us, Marvel may be going into another direction and adapt the Skrulls storyline, Secret Invasion, before jumping into something like Secret Wars.
With the Russos and Marvel currently being quiet about the future of the MCU, fans are only left to ponder what that future will be.
