The Russo Brothers Say that the Title for AVENGERS 4 “Should” Scare Fans

Read Time:2 Minute, 28 Second

We’ve known the title of Avengers: Infinity War for a while now. Originally, it was rumored that Avengers 3 and 4 were going to be Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. The Russos, who are directing both films, told us right up front that wouldn’t be the case. So we immediately got the title for Avengers 3; Then never got anything about 4. As the movies were filming (they filmed both at the same time), fans became more and more suspicious that the title of Avengers 4 might be a spoiler. Turns out, they were on to something.

A Twitter user tweeted that not knowing the title scares them. The Russos replied, and it was as ominous as can be. You can see the exchange below:

There certainly seems to be something to it. Of course, the Russos could just be messing with us, but I don’t think so. I do think there will be some revelation in Infinity War, or beyond, that the title would spoil.

My guess? Avengers: Secret Wars. Here is the synopsis of the Secret Wars comic from Wikipedia:

The storyline involves the Marvel Universe combining with various other alternate universes (including those seen in the Ultimate Marvel and Marvel 2099 imprints, the “Age of Apocalypse” storyline, the Marvel 1602 universe, and the “House of M” storyline) into Battleworld, a planet whose domains exhibit the aspects of the various universes. The planet itself is divided in many territories that are mostly self-contained and where a “pocket universe” composed of a specific storyline or universe reside and evolve. Various versions of individual Marvel characters can be present multiple times on the Battleworld. For example, there is a Tony Stark present in many of the territories where the Kingdom of Manhattan has both the Earth-1610 and the Earth-616 versions. The stories depicted in the miniseries about each domains characters powers and personal histories vastly differ from the one portrayed in the main Marvel universe(s).

With Dr. Strange and Scarlett Witch and the Ant-Man technology, opening up alternate universes wouldn’t be a stretch. Audiences are okay with weirder things now, we’ve had alternate universes in The Flash and Doctor Who, and mainstream audiences were fine with it (from a comprehension standpoint, story opinion remains just that – opinion). It wouldn’t be exactly as laid out in the synopsis, they would adapt it like they do with everything else.

But this premise could work with the characters they have already. That is why it could be easily planned. It might have implications beyond the movie though, if they get the rights back to the X-Men, they can use the seeds planted in Avengers 4 to bring them into the fold.

But people much smarter than me write these things, so it, of course, could be something that isn’t even close to that.

What do you think the title of Avengers 4 is?
