LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: Matt Ryan to Be Promoted to Series Regular in Season 4

Read Time:1 Minute, 40 Second

Matt Ryan played Constantine in the NBC show of the same name for one season. When that got cancelled, it was to the surprise of many when it was announced he would show up on Arrow.

After his official introduction into the Arrowverse, fans clamored for more. The CW announced that he was getting his own animated series on CW Seed. Then last year it was revealed that Matt Ryan would bring Constantine to Legends of Tomorrow for a small guest arc.

Ryan has been in two episodes already, and will appear in a few more this season. But next season, he will join the Legends full time.

But there is a catch. There technically isn’t a next season yet. None of the superhero shows on The CW have been officially renewed, so Ryan’s involvement is obviously contingent on whether the show happens.

The CW network president Mark Pedowitz had told EW that he is “optimistic” that all 4 shows will be renewed, however. (Black Lightning was not included in that since it wasn’t out yet when those comments were made.)

Still, it’s great that we will potentially get a talent like Matt Ryan on our screens on a regular basis again.

I agree with showrunner Phil Klemmer when he said that “an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our Legends.” The show is unabashedly weird and proudly ridiculous, now that it owns that instead of shying away from it, it is having its strongest season to date.

The Waverider lost a couple members with both Jax and Stein leaving. Then there was the departure of Wentworth Miller’s Citizen Cold back to Earth-X. That leaves a few vacancies on the ship. One of those is filled by The Flash alum Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) so there is still room for one more, and I can think of no one better than John Constantine.

Are you excited for Constantine to be back full time next year?
