THE IRISHMAN: Scorsese’s Epic Return To Gangster Movies w/ Pacino, De Niro, and Pesci Has Wrapped!

Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

Just in case you’ve been under a rock, fans of classic gangster movies have a lot to be excited about right now. Martin Scorsese, the maestro of such mafia classics as Goodfellas and Casino, is about to return to the underworld with a little movie called The Irishman…and he’s bringing some of his most iconic friends along with him.

The film’s cast includes Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and- making his Scorsese Gangster debut- the Godfather himself, Al Pacino!

Scorsese just took to Instagram to announce that The Irishman has just wrapped principal photography:

The film itself isn’t set to come out until next year, and if you’re looking at your calendar and wondering “Wait a minute. It’s barely March. Why would they need so much time for post-production for a film that’s still a year from release?” here’s why:

The Irishman is said to take place across two timelines, meaning they’re going to need extra time to digitally de-age the veteran actors for the scenes that take place in an earlier period.

It doesn’t sound like Pacino will need the digital treatment, though, as he’s playing real life crime boss Jimmy Hoffa. The film centers on a hitman (De Niro) discussing how he participated in Hoffa’s death and disappearance. So Pacino will only be there for the flashbacks.

The Irishman arrives on Netflix in 2019, but we’re sure it’ll also get a limited theatrical run. They’d be crazy not to get this thing into theaters for a little while as there’s a huge subset of fans who have been waiting forever to see these names collaborate on a story like this.
