BOX OFFICE: Here’s How BLACK PANTHER’s Second Weekend Stacks Up Historically
Marvel’s Black Panther has been hitting all kinds of milestones since its premiere a week and a half ago, and that continued on right through its second weekend. The film pulled in a staggering $108 Million in its second frame, and that puts it in very rare company. How rare? Well, it puts all of its Marvel brethren to shame, that’s for sure.
With that sky-high figure, Black Panther has eclipsed the second weekend of every Marvel film that’s come before it. But that’s not all. It’s actually the second best second weekend of all time! The only film that had a better one was Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it pulled in $149.2 Million in its sophomore frame in 2015.
So think of practically every major blockbuster ever and, yeah, Black Panther had a better second weekend than it. This momentum is incredible.
Just to put that into perspective, that $108M figure means its second weekend did better than the first weekends of films like Wonder Woman, Justice League, Doctor Strange, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of The Galaxy, and even the fan-favorite first Iron Man.
To date, the film has earned $704 Million worldwide in under 10 days, and it’s likely to keep a full head of steam in the weeks to come. It’s unlikely to be topped until Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time arrives on March 9.
Have you seen Black Panther yet? If not, what are you waiting for?

Make a great movie that resonates with people and the box office will take care of itself. Black Panther also brings the fun while addressing some serious topics and does so in a very evenhanded manner. Coogler continues to show what a great director and storyteller he is and they did so well in the casting across the board.
Chadwick Boseman will be the face of the MCU after Infinity War, IMHO. That’s how it should be.
