Will BLACK PANTHER Be Dethroned By A WRINKLE IN TIME?
The King of Wakanda is standing strong in the box office with Black Panther smashing records with no competition in sight. Or is there? Looking to topple T’Challa and his Dora Milaje is another Disney film, the time-travel fantasy A Wrinkle In Time, which may complete the feat the March 9-11 weekend.
Black Panther is looking to bring in as much as $100 million during the upcoming February 23-25 weekend and will more than likely lead the pack during the March 2-4 weekend when Jennifer Lawrence’s, Red Sparrow is set to possibly open with a $18 million – $25 million box office haul. Death Wish should be coming in at around the $15 million – $20 million range.
Some initial tracking was released this week for A Wrinkle In Time and is showing a range of $34 million – $37 million. While not a record crushing blockbuster number, that number can still shift closer to the films release date. This number can also be just enough to topple the Wakandan masterpiece as ticket sales will eventually begin to slow down for Black Panther. With spring break underway and numerous schools letting their students off for the week, A Wrinkle In Time just might get it’s opportunity to sit on the box office throne for a bit.
Things are looking good for Disney on multiple fronts, whether that be through their Marvel Cinematic Universe, or bringing children’s books to life. Either way, it’s a great time to be a fan and the numbers speak for themselves.
What do you think? Will Black Panther stay on top? Or will A Wrinkle In Time topple the box office giant? Sound off in the comments!
