Dolph Lundgren Drops Some New AQUAMAN Details

Read Time:1 Minute, 27 Second

The DCEU is still chugging along, and the next chapter in that universe is James Wan’s Aquaman film. While we’ve yet to see a trailer, we are getting to the point where information is starting to come out. This time it comes from Dolph Lundgren, who plays King Nereus. He revealed what his relationship is with Amber Heard’s Mera, which differs from the comic books.

“It is good to be king. Basically, I try to keep the peace down there along with Amber Heard, who plays my daughter. She’s trying to convince me to join the right side. Then you have Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother. We’re trying to avoid war between the surface dwells and the people of Atlantis.”

As you can see, he also drops a small plot point as well. It is vague enough to not be spoilery, but still gives an idea that the film will focus on unification between the humans and Atlanteans.

In the comics, King Nereus and Mera were engaged to be married, before Mera ended up with Aquaman. Hopefully, the change in character backgrounds are to better serve the story.

I enjoyed what Jason Momoa brought to Aquaman in Justice League but wish he was able to do more. Having him fight in a place where there was no water was an odd choice, but maybe they are saving those tricks for his solo debut. After all, he had some cool moments when he was out of his element, and he’ll have even more of a chance to shine when Aquaman hits theaters this November.

Are you okay with the change of canon? Or would you have preferred they stuck with the original Nereus/Mera relationship?

  1. Is Queen Atlanna still alive in Aquaman then? Based on the scene in Justice League where Mera talks about Atlanna in the past-tense, I assumed the character was dead and would only appear in flashbacks. (Not that all the info in Justice League was reliable…)
