Chris Evans Seemingly Confirms a BLACK WIDOW Movie is Happening
Marvel has given us the Black Widow character since 2010 when Scarlett Johansson started playing the character in Iron Man 2. It seemed like a no-brainer that her own movie was coming soon. But then it didn’t. A female-led Captain Marvel movie was announced, but DC had beaten both of them to the punch with Wonder Woman which went on to make truckloads of money, and inspire women everywhere.
While Marvel still hasn’t officially announced a Black Widow movie, one of their employees who would definitely be in the know might have let it slip. Chris Evans, who brilliantly portrays Captain America said this to ET Canada:
“There’s nothing [Marvel Studios] can’t do, and I’m sure it’s gonna have the exact same effect when Captain Marvel comes out, and then the Black Widow movie comes out. Marvel just has the winning recipe and they’re kind of one step ahead of everybody else.“
Evans’s wording makes it sound like a sure thing. There were no qualifiers, or terms like “If” or “I wish” or “Should it happen”, etc. He presented it like fact. The only things left now are to have a writer and director locked in, and then have Marvel Studios officially announce it. It’ll be in some grand fashion too, I’m sure.
Black Widow and Hawkeye are the only two characters that haven’t had their own standalone adventure. Avengers: Age of Ultron gave them a lot of character development and focus, but they have still been deprived of what their counterparts have. I’ve wanted a Black Widow movie for a while now, and the upcoming Red Sparrow movie with Jennifer Lawrence is exactly what I thought it would be. They’ll have to avoid a straight up origin now, to avoid comparisons. There has also been talk of a female team-up movie, and while I’d assume Johansson would be front and center in that, I do hope that a standalone film is separate. They could have one lead into another, but I hope one doesn’t replace the other.
What do you think? Are you excited for a Black Widow movie?
