Thursday B.O. Previews: BLACK PANTHER Outpaces DEADPOOL, WONDER WOMAN, Could Surpass CIVIL WAR!
Thanks to some crack reporting by Deadline, we can now report that Black Panther is on track for an insane weekend at the box office. While projections have been skyrocketing in recent weeks, the proof- as always- would be in the pudding. Now that the film has begun its box office run with some very muscular Thursday preview results, we can start separating hype from facts.
According to Deadline’s exclusive reporting, Black Panther raked in an estimated $25 Million last night. That puts it ahead of Deadpool‘s incredible February debut two years ago in this same frame. The Merc with The Mouth posted a Thursday night preview of $12.7 Million. It also obliterates recent solo superhero ventures like Doctor Strange ($9.4), Wonder Woman ($11M), and Spider-Man: Homecoming ($15.4M). Even Thor: Ragnarok, with the added heft of The Incredible Hulk, only mustered $14.5 in its Thursday preview.
To put it into even more historical perspective, if that estimate holds true, this means Black Panther will beat or tie Captain America: Civil War for the second best Marvel preview showing ever, behind only Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s $27.6M, and it’s already the biggest pre-summer preview box office of all time.
Wow.
This film is going to do absolutely insane numbers, and we can’t wait to track exactly how far up the mountain Black Panther goes in the days and weeks ahead.
A big part of the reason for the film’s success will be the incredible groundswell of support via grassroots campaigns. Which we covered here:
