Huge KITTY PRYDE Update: Tim Miller Will Direct, And Brian Michael Bendis Will Write It!
Earlier in the year, it was reported that Fox was developing a Kitty Pryde standalone X-Men movie with Tim Miller. There was no word on what capacity Miller would be involved, or if Ellen Paige- who portrayed the character in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past- would return. But now we have some more details.
It has been revealed that Tim Miller will in fact direct, while the script will be written by comic book superstar Brian Michael Bendis. It is still unclear what other characters will be involved, or if a new incarnation of Kitty will pop up in some other movie before this one happens. The Bendis news is a bit of a shocker, considering he just concluded his run at Marvel Comics and is about to writing for DC.
The original X-Men movie released in 2000 is arguably the birth of the modern day superhero boom. It has been going ever since, evolving with the times. Fox has proven it isn’t afraid to stretch the definition of the genre and take chances. The raunchy and outrageous Deadpool film was one of the most successful R-rated movies ever, that was followed up by the western noir inspired Logan, which was unlike anything we had seen in the genre before, and was absolutely robbed of an Oscar nomination for best picture. Couple those with the footage we saw from the New Mutants trailer, and Fox’s X-Universe is one of the most interesting ones going at the moment.
What would you like to get out of a Kitty Pryde standalone film? The character is certainly interesting enough to warrant one. Would you like to see Ellen Page return as the titular character? Or do you want a new clean slate for her? The X-Men continuity is convoluted enough to pull off either, so my vote is for whichever one makes the better, stronger story.
