BLACK PANTHER’S Place In The MCU Movie Timeline Revealed

Read Time:2 Minute, 29 Second

I am extremely looking forward to our next outing into the MCU with Black Panther on February 16th. The eagerness to see Wakanda in all of its beauty is something I, and many fans of the character, have been waiting to behold. Chadwick Boseman has done a fantastic job so far of bringing T’Challa, newfound King of Wakanda since Avengers: Civil War, to life. As for where the film falls in the timeline of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, executive producer Nate Moore, advises us that the film picks up right after the events of Civil War.

During a press visit to the Black Panther set, Moore had this to say:

“It begins where Civil War left off. Obviously that movie had a big impact on T’Challa because T’Chaka was killed. Now we answer the question, ‘What happens when he goes home? Who rules Wakanda? How does Wakanda deal with the loss of a king who was a fair king, who people seemed to like, and is T’Challa ready to be the king of Wakanda?’”

Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler, also reiterated this same idea when discussing the overall impact of the events in Civil War on the Black Panther himself. Coogler said:

“In Civil War, he was outside of Wakanda, he was in a place that he didn’t want to be, and his father gets killed. The whole film, he’s on a mission. He’s a man on a mission. He’s tortured; he’s of few words. I think that that was something that made him appealing in that film.”

“In this film, it’s the same guy, but you’re seeing all of the layers pulled back. The film’s from his perspective and he’s surrounded by people who he loves and cares for. It’s just a much more personal perspective on him. You see him go through the journey of taking on the greatest responsibility that a person can have, the responsibility of leading a country. You see him go through the full weight of that in the film.”

Black Panther opens February 16th.

February 16th is honestly taking way too long to come because I need some Black Panther in my life. I have always echoed that he is the black Batman… even cooler actually (I know, blasphemy). This guy is the King… of an entire country… that has mines of vibranium… AND he has the spirit of the Panther that makes him an all-out super warrior. I love this character. You should too. If all goes as it looks, Black Panther is on its way to possibly devour the box office.

Other upcoming MCU movies include; Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th, Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6th, Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, the fourth Avengers movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5, 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2020.

  1. No super hero movie fatigue for this guy. Black Panther looks like it’ll be a ripping good yarn and I’m stoked for the upcoming six films listed here too.

    1. After Civil War, all I could think about was seeing a full Panther flick and being able to see Wakanda. I’m also super excited to see a predominantly black cast dominate the screen in the MCU. Breath of fresh air for sure.

      1. It’s funny because while they are already very well ingrained in the MCU with pretty large characters, two actors I would’ve liked to have seen as a part of this project would’ve been Chiwetel Ejiofor and Idris Elba.

But hey, Mordo and Heimdall? I’m good! Keep bringin’ em! Now where are my Latino’s at? lmao

      2. Mario’s dislike of Doctor Strange notwithstanding, I personally can’t wait for a sequel because Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo proper will devour the scenes he’s in.

I watch Redbelt, Children of Men and Dirty Pretty Things at least once a year. Chiwetel Ejiofor is an incredible talent and a gift to any film he lends himself to. FACT!

Yeah, we need some Latino heat in these next phases. Make it happen Marvel!

      3. Redbelt is one of my favorite martial arts films. It has such an amazing story and to see his characters arc? Ugh… just gold. Chiwetel is phenomenal in that film.

Oooo, man. Mordo in FULL fledged magic slinging mode? Yeah… it’s going to be sick. Plus, we’ll also get to see Strange NOT be a n00b with his powers lol. Be a true Sorcerer Supreme as well.

      4. To be fair…I didn’t dislike Doctor Strange.

I just, eye-popping visuals aside, found it to be very vanilla. I feel like they took an opportunity to be really mind-blowing and cosmic and intense…and turned it into Iron Man-lite. Lots of jokes that sucked the power of potentially epic moments, and not enough of an exploration of who Stephen Strange is/was at his core.

      5. And I can’t disagree with you on those points. You know I’m only giving you guff anyways. I guess I choose to overlook those things, and I probably shouldn’t, but it is an entertaining film for me and I love Doctor Strange so I have a debilitating bias.

  2. I can’t wait for this movie. It is a great character, a great story and a great done right. I’m ready for that ferocity and grave that Black Panther will bring to the superhero world! It would be crazy if they introduce Storm at some point. It’s technically possible now! Ahhh!!

    1. I didn’t wan to post about that just yet cause I’m sure I’ll divulge more BP news, but yes… Storm appearing in Wakanda is totally a possibility.

      Though… I think we need a re-cast? Yeah? lol
